More great baby & kid Christmas gift ideas from Imagiplay
I love Imagiplay toys. They are made from earth friendly and sustainable rubberwood, not cheap plastic from China, and they are simple and elegant to look at while being fun for your little one. They remind me of toys I imagine Santa's elves making in their workshop a long time ago...toys that are ageless and can be passed down from generation to generation. Lots of great items on sale today (look at their 3D wood puzzles, adorable), but my fav are these building blocks which double as a multi-sided puzzle. Best part...only $6.99! (Reg $14.99). Great gifts.

Lucky Jade on sale today!
Lucky Jade is hands down my favorite brand for baby & toddler clothes & blankets. Made from either a snuggly cozy (and eco-friendly!) bamboo cotton blend or a lusciously soft cashmere cotton blend, everything we have of theirs gets used and worn to death, making it worth the high price tag. It's no wonder it's a celeb favorite. Their cashmere cotton coveralls (like this pink bird coverall, also avail in a cream colored giraffe design) are regularly $88, on sale today for $40, up to 12 mos. Their snuggly bamboo stroller blankets (which are wonderful b/c they fold up really small for the diaper bag) are on sale for $32 (reg $68!), and there's a darling hat & mitten set for $16 that is regularly $28.
Great Holiday Gift Item, only $12
This is a great wooden pull-along, stacking combo toy, and it looks darling, too. Finley loves hers. On sale today for $12 (reg $20), from Melissa & Doug.www.onekingslane.com/invite/AnnaBrown. Great Xmas gift!

Go Victorian at The Great Dickens Fair!
Do you have a young lad or lassie who loves music, puppet shows, theater, costume characters and games? Look no further than The Great Dickens Fair, a full-scale reproduction of 19th century London streets complete with decorated shops, tea houses, gentlemens clubs and themed theaters. Since there’s no holidays without Scrooge, expect to find characters of A Christmas Carol parading the streets, as well as Oliver Twist and other beloved Dickens protagonists. Around you, 700 costumed Victorian players will give your child a definite time-travel experience.
Entertainment
Inside the fair, dancers twirl, execute skillful steps and tiptoe at Fezziwig’s Warehouse, a lively English holiday folk dancing party. Don’t miss the Scottish dancers in full regalia – and their fancy footwork!
In the adjoining room, check out the schedule to see the twice-daily Christmas Pantomime at the Victoria & Albert Bijou Music Hall. The hour-long production “Aladdin & Cinderella Meet the Monkey King” will delight preschoolers with magical creatures, jolly good humor, a few thrills and fantastic fairy tales.
Head over to the Piccolo Playhouse at 1:30, 2:30 or 4:30 p.m., for a Punch and Judy puppet show where the popular anarchic English husband and wife babble and quarrel during short scenes.
The Father Christmas stage is where family fun will unroll, featuring a daily Toy Parade at noon and a daily Father Christmas Parade at 1:50 p.m.
Insider tip: If you missed the parades because you were laughing out loud in front of the Christmas Pantomime or listening to carolers or sea chanteys, you can still bring your children to meet Father Christmas and tell him their holiday wishes at the Father Christmas Stage daily between 2:30 and 3:40pm.
Click here for the full entertainment schedule.
Games & Activities
In addition to enjoying non-stop entertainment all day if they want, kids will love unusual games and activities such as the Candy Machine, a dart game à la Chitty-Chitty-Bang-Bang where a popped balloon triggers a crazy machine that delivers a candy cane. Other children’s favorites include the Boot The Cat game (with real boots!), Flip A Sweep (as in flipping chimney sweeps at chimney tops), the great safari adventure of the man-powered Safari Carousel or the beanbag throwing game called Footlight Fiasco. Don’t forget the new Tinsley Green Children’s Area. For junior pirates, a visit to the Pirates’ Cove is a must.
Insider tip: head to the carousel early as long lines form in the afternoon.
Dining
Even picky eaters will find meals to their liking, from Mr. Punch’s Pasta to roast beef, fish and chips, meat pies, Greek food or bangers and mash. From noon to 4 p.m. daily, your family can enjoy a traditional English tea with scones, tea sandwiches and tea at Cuthbert’s Tea Shoppe, a unique holiday tea with festive Victorian Christmas wreaths adorning the walls.
Insider tip: reserve your table ahead of time at Cuthbert’s Tea Shoppe as seating for this holiday tea sells like hot cakes. Book online or in person as soon as you arrive at the fair.
For quick snacks, the Cinnamon Crunch Almonds and the Chestnut Cart are always a hit – and oh so tasty. Meanwhile, adults can sip crisp and hearty ales at the four traditional pubs and the Bohemian Absinthe Bar scattered throughout the fair. How’s that for the best of both worlds?
Location & Details
Open Saturdays and Sundays until December 19th from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., The Great Dickens Fair takes place inside 3 acres of buildings at the Cow Palace in Daly City. Since all streets are level, strollers can access all areas of the Dickens fair. To drive there, see directions here. Parking on site is $10/car or free if you score street parking.
Tickets are $25/adult, $21/Senior (62+), student or military and $12/child aged between 5-11 years. Children under 5 are free! Order your tickets online before December 6, 2010 and save $5 per adult ticket and $1 per child ticket.
Insider tips:
- Ride BART and take a free shuttle to London! A free BART shuttle runs every 20 minutes from 11:15 a.m. to 7 p.m. to and from the Glen Park BART station. BART riders may bring their tickets to the Fair gate for $4 off one full fare Adult admission (cannot be combined with other discounts).
- As you enter Victorian London, you receive a map of the streets with listings of theaters, shops and stages, as well as daily schedules. Hold on to it! With 120,000 square feet, the Dickens fair is big enough that you’ll need to refer to the map frequently – and you don’t want to miss out on family fun because of timing.
The Great Dickens Fair takes place at the Cow Palace, 2600 Geneva Avenue, Daly City, CA 94014. Saturdays and Sundays through Sunday, December 19, from 11 a.m. ’til 7 p.m. www.dickensfair.com.

Lord help my pocketbook...Steiff bears on sale today!Mon, 11/22/2010 - 10:40am
Oh, goodness, Steiff is on sale today. Someone please tie my hands behind my back. Steiff is the world's oldest plush manufacturer. Founded in 1880 by Margarete Steiff, a seamstress who was limited to sewing with one hand due to polio, it got its start making plush elephant-shaped pincushions. When it was noted that children loved playing with them, other animals were created—among them the very first teddy bear—and the rest is history. The famous "Button in Ear" trademark, introduced one of Margarete's nephews in 1904, distinguishes every Steiff animal, and stands for Steiff's superior quality, where their bears are still made by hand from the finest of materials and treasured by collectors and children the world over. Prices as low as $42, for the bear pictured, reg $79. https://www.onekingslane.com/SignUp.aspx?Sponsor=Annajulietbrown%40aol.com

My new niece was born this weekend!
So this weekend was the celebration of my 40th birthday with my sorority sisters, my parents' anniversary and my sister's husband's birthday. My parents had big dinner plans, I had a full spa day planned with 2 of my girlfriends, my husband had a golf day planned with 5 of his friends, we had a 40th surprise birthday dinner for another friend, and my sister had a special evening planned for her husband for his birthday. Busy day for all. 6am, phone rings. Sister in labor. Heading to hospital. Ack! Call spa. Cancel appointments. Call husband (I was in Napa where my sister and parents live). Tell him to cancel his golf plans and come up asap so he can watch our baby and my sister's first baby. Call wife of our friend whose birthday dinner was that night and cancel our appearance. Head to hospital. Get text from sister, telling me to take my time, they were waiting for the anesthesiologist. I stop at Peets. Wait in line, get latte. Text sister, "want anything?" She texts back, yep, a coffee & something to eat for her husband would be great. I get in line again. Get his coffee. Text to ask if he wants cream or sugar. No response. I sit down at a table to enjoy my latte and see if she texts back, cuz they don't have creamer-to-go at Peets. Wait 5 minutes. No response. Hum. Get up, mosey to the car. Drive to the hospital. Parking lot under construction, no spots. Park two blacks away. Mosey to maternity ward. Walk in the door, my stepdad is waiting inside, says, "She's having the baby RIGHT NOW." Oh god. Run down the hall to the nurses' station, trying not to spill two coffees, station is empty. Not a human being in sight that can tell me where my sister is. Run down another hall. No one but a non-English speaking orderly. Finally I stand in the hallway and yell, "Is there ANYONE here who can tell me where my sister is??" Two nurses appear from somewhere and proceed to debate if they know who my sister is. Finally one says, "Oh! I think that's the girl in #3, but she's delivering right now." Duh. Run to #3, hear commotion from within, walk in, baby is crowning! NO PAIN MEDS. There wasn't time. The baby decided she was done with being inside while they were waiting for the epidural. There wasn't even time for oral or IV meds. 3 pushes, she's out. Holy cannoli! First words out of my mouth, "Oh my God, she's huge!" Beautiful, but BIG. Sure enough, my superwoman sister had just given birth, with zero medication, to a 9 lb, 12 oz baby...the size of my daughter at two months. And you know what? She never even screamed. Or broke a sweat. Despite the ungodly pain. I am in awe of her. And of this beautiful baby girl who has joined our family. And you know what else? The baby came so quickly that I ended up making it to my spa day after all. And my husband made the back 9 of the golf round. AND we made it to the surprise birthday dinner that night. A very full day of all good things. Congratulations, sister! :-)

Decorating with a horse & pony theme
Krissy, this one's for you!
Girls of all ages love horses and ponies, and it’s a playful theme to consider for a daughter’s bedroom. Go with lavender and hot pink as your main colors and white furniture and accessories to complete the look. These folk art inspired sheets are our inspiration piece. We’ve made the bed with these bright sheets, mixed with colorful patterned and solid duvet and coverlet for extra warmth. We love this hot pink crinkly cotton coverlet and matching shams adorned with playful pom-poms.
The bedding looks great on this twin bed with a very feminine and intricate design with a beveled headboard and turned wood legs. It has a slightly distressed look so it feels like a well loved hand-me-down that will stand the test of time. Get it with an accompanying Jenny Lind nightstand, aptly named for the turned spindle characteristics.
A classic braided rug in tea rose hues is a great choice for a kid’s room because it’s durable and washable.
A continuation of the folk art theme, an all white glazed horse lamp has subtle tribal patterns on it that make it appropriate beyond the horse fanatic phase. This lamp is pricey, but is sophisticated enough she might want to keep it for years to come.
Accent a wall in the room with a giant equestrian themed mural. A striking silhouetted stable scene is so unique; it will make the room. If you buy just one big thing to suit your daughter’s horse fancy, this it.
Handmade of white twisted iron, these horse forms add lots of style on a book shelf, nightstand or desk. It’s a decorative item any horse lover will appreciate.
This artist’s painting of a horse is perfectly done in the palette for our room. You don’t have to purchase pricey paintings to get the full effect of a grouping of horse-inspired images hung with ribbon or resting on shelves. Let your daughter pick several pieces in a cohesive color family so she can feel like she has a hand in the decorating.
